This time next week we will be somewhere in the Deep South on our way to sunny South Florida. HOLY SHIT WE ARE LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY FROM HITTING THE ROAD.
So, there’s a couple things I want to get out of the way before we really get started on this here “travel blog.”
First, I recognize that keeping a blog and social media record of your travels is a purely narcissistic endeavor. Hell, so is quitting your job to spend months traveling the country, but I digress.
We are doing this to share our adventures with anyone who may be interested (anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller?), but it’s also just as much for ourselves. Taking the time to chronicle the trip will not only allow for a more complete and appreciated experience, but it will also be a way to remember it well down the road when our memories aren’t quite as sharp.
I’m almost certain we’ll need it to settle a silly argument over what did or did not happen on any given day!
That brings me to the second thing I’d like to get on the record right here at the start. This is probably where you expect to find a highly-detailed cross-country road trip preparation and planning post as told from someone who’s holding themselves out to be an expert or at least have a certain level of proficiency.
Well, that’s not this post nor this blog.
While we’ve been preparing and planning to do this for a couple of months now, we are far from experts. Frankly, we have no better idea as to what we are doing than anyone else. If we can plan a road trip, you can plan a road trip.
Those who know me would absolutely tell you that I’m a know-it-all, but I’m going to do my best to dispel that myth - at least in terms of being traveler/blogger/self-absorbed internetter.
There are a few things I hope to accomplish in this space and time with you here. For one, I hope to develop a voice that reads easy and provides some humor here and there while sharing some of the really interesting/fun/neat/weird/awesome things we see and do along the way. If we can highlight some inspiring people and places along the way, even better. You’re also going to get some random thoughts, food/beer reviews, and music talk.
This is a rough start. As a lawyer I’ve been taught to say what I need to say using the least amount of words possible. Clearly, I’m still working on that. Things should take shape and smooth out as we go – or maybe not. Either way, I’ll be here plugging away.
For now we have a garage sale to pull off tomorrow, a duplex to clean to very detailed specifications, and final packing to do over the weekend.
We’ll be dropping much more frequent updates from here on out!
